I found that it needed to be thicker for scoop so mixed 1/2 cup of the chedder cheese into the pan when breaking down the cream cheese. This adds consistency in eating. Also added 1 oz of hot sauce and liquid smoke. Also used hot sausage Never had anyting get eaten up like this.

To simple to pass up, but as anyone else I made a few additions. I added a small can of refried beans to the mixture, and fresh jalepenos. This thickened it a bit more, and stretched it out too. (We like to to out in a blaze of glory). Thanks for the basics, Annie.

Yummy! Next time will mix cheese in or leave out, as dish cooled it got that hardish shell on top, but not a huge deal. Mixed the leftovers with two scrambled eggs the next morning, as one reviewer suggested, baked at 350 for about 35 minutes and had a delicious brunch casserole the next day!

Very easy & good recipe. I didn't understand why the recipe calls for you to drain 1/4 cup liquid from the tomatoes & chilies and then in the next step tell you to add it back in. I wasn't really sure what I was supposed to do so I met in the middle somewhere. I kept about 1/8 cup out. If I were to do it again, I think I would leave the drained 1/4 cup out all together. All it did was thin out the dip. I used a zesty hot ground sausage (Bob Evans) and it was definitely fine. But I'm thinking your final results will depend on using a brand and type that suits your tastes.

This recipe gets 5 stars because it is easy, fast and delicious. I used hot Italian sausage, mixed the cheddar into the mixture prior to baking and sprinkled extra cheese on top. I cubed the cream cheese then gave it a short zap in the microwave so it was easier to mix thoroughly into the hot cooked sausage. I served with Artisan tortilla chips and it was a winner!

A hit for the Thanksgiving app! Super easy to prep and everyone LOVED it. It does take a little time to cook the sausage, just compared to a dip/appetizer where you can stir all the ingredients together without cooking anything first. I prepared it the night before - perfect!

This was so good and so easy to make! It was a big hit at the football party. Our team lost so it may be bad luck though. ;) Seriously, try this one!

Better with italian spicy turkey sausage and 1/3 less fat cream cheese - shredded cheese also add cumin and some green onion....very good without so much guilt.

This is everyone's favorite. And, one of this cook's favorite. It is not only delicious but so easy to make. I have added two 8-ounce packges of cream cheese to recipe if I needed extra large portion. No difference in taste. Still yummy.

I chopped up Morning Star sausage patties for a veggie side dish on New Year's Eve and kept everything warm in the crockpot. Used fat free cream cheese and also added half a jar of Mexican Villa Mild Sauce. Skipped the shredded cheddar to save caolories and served with tortilla chips. Excellent and super-healthy appetizer!

I love this recipe. It is very simple and everyone loves it. The cookbook that it was in was one of my FAVORITE cookbooks, but I have lost it. Can someone please tell me the name of the cookbook as it had so many wonderful recipes including a Cowboy Cookie recipe?

Oh wow! Absolutely delicious! Used only green chiles since I couldn't find Rotel or the equivalent in the store. This turned out perfect and bubbly. I mixed the shredded cheddar directly into the mix rather than on top. This is the perfect dish for an appetizer for a Mexican themed party. Yummo!

My daughter made this wonderful dip to carry to a Thanksgiving dinner/party. Instead of baking it in the oven she warmed it in a crock pot. This made it easy to transport and warm up on arrival. Today I am making a batch for our New Year's Day TV-athon!

I have made this dip so many times I already lost count. It is a big hit with everyone including the little ones that can tolerate spicy food. I use jalapeno sausage and would recommend it instead of the hot sausage. I always triple the recipe because it is the first thing to go. I highly recommend it to anyone that is looking for a simple dish to bring to a party or serve to guests.
